We are now offering a low cost route to gaining the recognised City and Guilds 2377 award for PAT testing. PAT is the acronym for Portable Appliance Testing, or the safety testing of electrical devices that are, typically, plugged-into mains, or equivalent, electrical sockets. Although this is now well-known as PAT testing, the official name for this is 'In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment', and is based on the IEE Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.

PAT Testing is ideal for people who have a basic understanding of electrical theory, and a thorough and responsible approach to testing. It is an activity designed to ensure electrical safety and as such should be done by trained and competent people - see our dedicated web page for more information and special offers.

At Lucid we are a well-respected City and Guilds approved assessment centre. As a result we have agreed to offer some City and Guilds qualifications on an assessment only basis as a service to our clients. One such qualification is the new (2008) City and Guilds 2382 award otherwise commonly known as the '17th edition' in reference to it being an examination of the candidates knowledge of the BS 7671:2008 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations.

For holders of the current City and Guilds 2381 (16th edition) qualification, City and Guilds have provided a simpler upgrade path to full 17th Edition award and qualification. There is now a new City and Guilds 2382-20 'Upgrade' qualification that demonstrates an awareness of the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations. This will be the examination route of choice for most current, qualified electricians.
