16th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (BS7671) - City and Guilds 2381 qualification
At Lucid we are a well-respected City and Guilds approved assessment centre. As a result we have agreed to offer some City and Guilds qualifications on an assessment only basis as a service to our clients. One such qualification is the City and Guilds 2381 award otherwise commonly known as the '16th edition' in reference to it being an examination of the candidates knowledge of the BS 7671:2001 16th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations.
16th Edition is up-issued to 17th Edition
The well-known 16th edition is to be superceded by the new 17th edition IEE Wiring Regulations. The new 17th edition will be published at the end of January 2008 and these new wiring regulations come into force from the 1st July 2008. For more information please see our dedicated 17th Edition Regulations and City & Guilds Qualification page.
The 16th edition City and Guilds 2381 examination will be available until March 2008, and this version of the wiring regulations can be used until June 2008.
Upgrading from 16th Edition to 17th Edition Qualification with City & Guilds
For those electricians already qualified under the 16th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations, City and Guilds have provided a simpler upgrade path to full 17th Edition award and qualification. For more information please see our dedicated page of information on the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations and Qualification.
16th Edition Award Examination
The Examination for the City and Guilds 2381 qualification is a 2 hour multiple choice test downloaded to a test PC at our training centre. It is an open book examination so candidates can take copies of books, standards or notes into the exam with them, but may net receive help or assistance from other candidates, and mobile telephones must be turned off.
16th Edition Training, Standards and other Reference Materials
Our aim with this City and Guilds 2381 award is to offer outstanding value for money. For this reason we have decided against offering formal training services for something where many people can learn what they need to know from books or the standard. We did not want to force people to sit through a training session just so we could justify a higher fee, so instead we are offering an '2381 16th edition examination only' option.
Should you require training materials, we can help by supplying standards or training notes, but these are also available form other sources (including Ebay!).
City and Guilds 2381 Examination Fee
Our current standard fee for the City and Guilds 2381 'examination only' is £85 plus VAT.
We can offer discounts for a number of candidates, but we may ask for a small uplift for some out of hours examinations as we may have to ensure staff are available to invigilate.
If you require the examination in the evening or at the weekend this can be arranged. Please call us for details.
Part P Electrical Regulations, Training and Qualifications
If you are involved in the installation on any electrical equipment then you should be aware of the 'Part P' regulations. Lucid are able to offer qualifications to fitters required to carry-out some electrical installation work as part of their job, whether they are kitchen fitters, bathroom fitters or electrical installers.
Portable Appliance Testing (PAT Testing) Training and Qualifications
We are offering a low cost route to gaining the recognised City and Guilds award for PAT testing. PAT is the acronym for Portable Appliance Testing, or the safety testing of electrical devices that are plugged-into mains, or equivalent, electrical sockets.
PAT testing is required at regular intervals on all mains voltage devices or their power leads for commercial premises whether they are offices, factories, holiday homes or residential care homes. The testing is designed to ensure that electrical equipment used in these environments is safe for workers, residents and the public.
The requirement is that PAT testing is done by a competent person within the workplace, and the best way to prove a person is competent is by ensuring they have passed appropriate qualifications such as the City and Guilds qualifications for staff carrying our portable appliance testing, or alternatively the equivalent qualification for those who are responsible for managing the application and process of PAT testing within workplaces.
Other Electrical Cabling Qualifications & Tests
If you are interested in any other electrical cabling qualifications then we would be very interested to hear from you. Electical cabling is not our core business, but it fits neatly between our communications cabling and our Health & Safety training services. There are aspects of both of these where a knowledge of electrical safety, earthing and bonding, and recommendations for best practice is a distinct advantage. We have therefore decided to offer these qualifications and awards with the emphasis being on providing a low-cost route for candidates.
