Lucid Staff - all experts in their fields

The most important factors in training are the skills and experience of the trainer. At Lucid, all of our trainers are very highly qualified experts within their specialist fields, with many years of industry experience. They are reliable, friendly and patient training professionals who provide not only the best possible training, but also post-training support which is second to none!

Furthermore, all of our trainers are permanent members of staff, involved in developing and updating "their" courses. They are not contract staff who come in just to go through the motions. Our staff are proud of the quality of training they deliver as expert Lucid trainers.

Qualifications are important to proving a level of competence, but they do not tell the whole story and Lucid trainers have experience of working as safety officers within businesses before becoming trainers and consultants. This means our consultants understand many of the issues and practical problems our clients face and can provide appropriate practical solutions.

Andy Binstead, CMIOSH: Health & Safety Consultant

Andy is our principal Health and Safety expert, a Chartered Member of the Istuitute of Occupational Safety and Health, and comes to us with a wide ranging knowledge of all things health and safety. His experience in the health and safety field is primarily gained through working directly in roles with health and safety responsibilities for a variety of businesses before joining a training company as a health and safety trainer and consultant.

Andy's expertise and qualifications enable him to train in topics from first aid and manual handling through to risk assessment, asbestos surveying and health and safety management.

Outside work Andy is a first responder in his local community and a member of a search and rescue group. If he gets any free time he enjoys outdoor activities such as walking and canoeing, and has a keen interest in photography.

Mike Regan: BSc MSc CEng MIET, Certificated Laser Protection Adviser (LPA)

As a certificated Laser Protection Adviser (LPA), Mike is well qualified in laser safety and able to provide the required LPA expertise to medical and cosmetic clinics, including dental surgeries. Such clinics need to employ the services of a suitably qualified LPA if they are working with laser or intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment devices, and Mike has audited a large number of clinics in the past few years, gaining a reputation for providing a thorough and appropriate service.

Mike is a member of UK and international laser safety standards committees, and is particularly active in the aesthetic / medical and fibre optics working groups of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). He is also Secretary to the Association of Laser Safety Professionals.

John Colton, BSc (Hons): Managing Director

John's background is in originally in the fibre optics industry, but John moved into training in the mid 1990s and then started in business as a director of Lucid Optical Services Ltd, a specialist technical training company, in 1999. He has also worked with laser-doppler velocimetry.

At Lucid, Geoff works on a variety of training courses; consultancy projects; and forging closer links with universities. He has worked on the development of laser safety, LED and extended source (lamp) safety training courses and has re-written and extended our LaserBee laser safety software package.

In addition Geoff has developed and delivered Lucid's new PAT testing course which provides successful candidates with a City & Guilds qualification in the inspection and testing of electrical equipment. This is a safety orientated course which has a significant technical element in requiring some electrical theory knowledge.
